Raising funds for SARA at LIM 2015

There is no going back...

I have registered to do the "Lanzarote International Marathon" on the 12th of December. Do not get to excited, I'm only doing the 5k  ;-)

This is my challenge to raise funds for the animals at SARA Animal Shelter in Lanzarote.  

I´m only asking you for 1 € per meter!

Adopted - DIOOR, LÚA & MOZART 2

Today I met DIOOR, a 1 year old mutt so sweet, that when he I kneeled down he rested his two front paws on my knee and stayed still, just looking into my eyes, not moving, not whining. 

Saying nothing and saying it all. 

Gosh, it brings tears to my eyes just thinking of it; so I sat there with with, and hugged him, for ages, I promised him we'd find him a good home.

I also met LÚA for the 2nd time, a nearly 2 year old terrier mix. She is so affectionate she jumps up to you all the time at first; the trick is to keep walking, burn some of that energy off; we are working on the "sit" comand and she knows she gets rewarded if the obeys, so she is learning quickly ;-)

And finally, I met the MOZARTS puppies today, 3 month old bardino and shepherd mix, 3 sisters and 1 brother, who was lucky enough to get adopted right there and then. 

There is still up for adoption 2 splecked females and the light brown one, MOZART 2, the most shy of them all and my favourite, of course. I sat with them for a while, let them get used to me. I put some biscuits in my hand and just put the hand out, without looking, without making any noise or call her. Eventually she ate of my hand. I even managed to pet her a little bit before leaving.

MFT # 17 - Dancing Kings

For years loads of movies seem to be including a dancing scene of one kind or another. 

These are 3 of my favourite ones: 

1) Hugh Grant dancing to "Jump", performed by The Pointer Sisters on "Love Actually" 

2) Kevin James dancing to "Yeah!", performed by Usher on "Hitch"

3) Omar Sy dancing to "Boogie Wonderland", performed by Earth Wind & Fire on "The Intouchables"

I can´t hear these songs anymore without thinking of these scenes and they always put a smile in my face.

ADOPTED - Ayatima "Timi"

(En castellano aquí).

Since I adopted my little dog last summer I have become more aware of how big the abandonment of animals (mainly dogs and cats) in the island of Lanzarote, where we live.  

I am not in a position to adopt any more four legged ones so a few months ago I decided to start volunteering at SARA, the shelter that introduced me to my fury friend, to see if I could help somehow. 

One of the volunteer projects is to become the "Fairy Godmother" of an animal. You choose your "Cindarella", get to know him/her and share his/her story with views to find him a home where they can be happy. 

My current "cindarello" is Ayatima 3 "Timi":

Why does his name have a number? Well, because they arrived at the shelter as 3 month old puppies himself and his 5 brothers... over 5 years ago!!! 

Luckily 4 of them have already been adopted, but himself and his brother Ayatima 2 "Aya" haven´t been that lucky... yet. It often happens with large litters that some of them get adopted as puppies, it takes a little bit longer for others to be adopted, and still not knowing why, some others seem to take for ever to find their home, like in my "cindarello´s" case.  

His mother is a pure podenco and the father is a cross of husky with possibly German shepherd. That´s why all the Ayatima brothers are so handsome and unique, don´t you think?

ADOPTADO - Ayatima "Timi"

(In English here).

Desde que adopté a mi perrita el verano pasado he tomado conciencia del problema de abandono de animales (perros y gatos, principalmente) que sufre la isla de Lanzarote, dónde vivimos. 

No disponiendo de las condiciones para poder adoptar más animalejos personalmente, decidí hace unos meses hacerme voluntaria de SARA, la protectora que me presentó a mi amiga peluda, para ver si podía ayudar de alguna manera. 

Una de las iniciativas que tienen para los voluntarios es ser "Hada Madrina" de un peludo. Se trata de escoger a un@ "Cenicient@", ir conociéndlo y velar por él y difundir su historia con el objetivo de encontrarles un hogar dónde puedan ser felices. 

Mi "ceniciento" actual se llama Ayatima 3 "Timi":

¿No se os cae la baba?

¿Por qué su nombre tiene un número? Pues porque llegaron siendo carrochos de tan sólo 3 mesitos él y sus 5 hermanitos... hace ya más de 5 años!!! 

Afortunadamente 4 de ellos fueron ya adoptados, pero ni él ni su hermano Ayatima 2 "Aya" aún no han tenido esa suerte. Suele pasar cuando llegan camadas tan grandes que a algunos de ellos los adoptan enseguida, siendo aún cachorritos, otros tardan un poquito más y otros, no sabemos porqué, tardan lo suyo como es el caso de mi "ceniciento". 

Su madre es una podenca pura y el padre es un mestizo de husky y puede ser que algo de pastor alemán. De ahí que los hermanos Ayatima sean todos tan guapos y únicos. ¿No os parece?

Music up above my head

I find it fascinating how you get to discover new music sometimes.

Thanks to Sonidos Líquidos (literally, "Liquid Sounds") the gastronomic and music initiative in my adoptive island of Lanzarote, I just listened to Anaut for the first time ever, a band that will be playing in the this year's final concert. 

Anaut is described as one of Spain´s new "black voices". Here is an example why:

Which led me to listen to them a bit more, so I came across this little jewel: "Up above my head"

which in turn it was originally recorded by Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight as a duo in the 1940s. 

Here you can see Sister Roetta Tharpe singing live in France in 1965 where she plays an impressive guitar solo herself! 

I must put aside some time to listen to them both a little bit more, definitely! What do you think?

Lanzarote Pet Friendly

A raíz de la inaguración de la playa "Pet Friendly" en mi municipio, he conocido Lanzarote Pet Friendly, una página en Facebook donde se invita a los dueños de los animales a compartir en qué sitio de nuestra isla de Lanzarote aceptan mascotas. 

He elaborado este listado con todos los comentarios que he podido ver hasta ahora.  La intención es irlos actualizando pero necesitamos vuestra ayuda.

Due to the recent inauguration of the "Pet Friendly" beach in my town I got to know Lanzarote Pet Friendly, a Facebook page where pet owners are invited to share where in our island of Lanzarote their pets are welcome.
